Jalwehra, commonly known as Jalerha, is a village in Hoshiarpur, Punjab. Its population in 2011 census was 616 of which 310 are males while 306 are females. Average Sex Ratio of Jalwehra village is 987 which is higher than Punjab state average of 895. Child Sex Ratio for the Jalwehra as per census is 1000, higher than Punjab average of 846. Jalwehra village has higher literacy rate compared to Punjab. In 2011, literacy rate of Jalwehra village was 82.22% compared to 75.84% of Punjab. In Jalwehra Male literacy stands at 89.86% while female literacy rate was 74.47%.

Its area 1.35 square kilometers. The surrounding villages are: Panchhat, Narur, Nasirabad (Shekhpur), Toderpur, Nanglan, Thindlan & Chairan. The nearest road is Panchhat-Phagwara which is 2 km long. The nearest railway station is Phagwara 23 km away. The post-office of Jalwehra is in Toderpur. Jalwehra was established in the census of 1800. 

Most of the population living in Village Jalwehra belongs to Doad Clan. 

History of Doad Clan

The town of Garshankar was founded by Doad king Shankar Sahai in 1000.AD. Majority of Rajputs were  living in Block number 22 of Garhshankar, especially in the upper villages of Garhshankar popularly known in the area as BEET. 

Plot against Doads (1775)

The Ghorewaha tribe made a deadly plot against the Doads. They managed to buy Bharadwaj, the high priest of the Doad tribe and massacred the Doads in a well-planned scheme. When the Doads were busy in their religious prayers, armed members of the Ghorewan tribe entered the temple, according to a well-defined plan they attacked the disarmed Doads. They brutally killed the Doads and filled the tank of the temple with their dead bodies. Thus, the Korewans (Ghorewahas) finally succeeded in conquering Garhshankar. This event took place around 1775.The Doads who managed to escape that slaughter migrated to other areas in Punjab (like Dandiyan, Mansowal, etc.). Doads who migrated to Mansowal regain their power and their new settlements. During the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, when he wanted to conquer the sub-mountainous region of Kandi, the Doads of Mansowal sent fifteen horse riders to help Maharaja Ranjit Singh, to avenge their massacre by the Ghorewahas. In return, the Maharaja granted the Doads the property of the lands of Mansowal. 

The British Empire also granted the property of eight villages to Doads of Mansowal. This information is recorded on page 67 in Final Report of Revised Settlement, Hoshiarpur District, 1877–1884, by J.A.L. Montgomery, published 1885, Calcutta Central Press Co.

After the slaughter of Doads at Garhshankar, five grandsons of the last Doad king survived. The youngest grandson of the last Doad king, who was also killed by Korewans, was married to a girl from Ajnoha. During the Garhshankar tragedy, the wife of the youngest prince was at her parents’ house in Ajnoha because she was expecting a baby. 

She gave birth to a son. In those days, it was not considered good to keep the son of a daughter in the village. Therefore, when the young prince became an adult in 1800, the villagers of Ajnoha built a house for him in their land. In the course of time, his cousins, the sons of his two uncles, who were homeless until then, finally came to live with him. Their place of residence was in the low land. During the rainy season, their village remained full of water for many days. That is why their village began to be called "Jalwehra" meaning "terrace of water". 

The son of his third uncle, whose name was Ghamandi, also came to live with him. The brother of Ghamandi, named Jattu, went to live in Thakarwal (old). The descends of Jattu migrated to New Thakarwal (Randhirgarh). When Maharaja of Kapurthala offered land to Doads who were living at Thakarwal (old). Name of this village in the Govt records is Randhirgarh but because the Doads who were migrated from Thakarwal (old) used to call it Thakarwal (New) After some time  Doad families living at Jalwehra offered some families  to live with them at Jalwehra and some families migrated from Thakarwal (New) to Jalwehra. Those who Migrated to Jalwehra are still known as "Patti Thakarwalian De". 

ਜਲਵੇਹੜਾ , ਆਮ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਜਲੇੜਾ ਜੋਂ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਲਾ ਹੁਸ਼ਿਆਰਪੁਰ , ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਪਿੰਡ ਹੈ । 2011 ਦੀ ਮਰਦਮਸ਼ੁਮਾਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸਦੀ ਅਬਾਦੀ 616 ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ 310 ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਹਨ ਜਦਕਿ 306 ਔਰਤਾਂ ਹਨ। ਜਲਵੇਹੜਾ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੀ ਔਸਤ ਲਿੰਗ ਅਨੁਪਾਤ 987 ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਰਾਜ ਦੀ ਔਸਤ 895 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਹੈ।

ਮਰਦਮਸ਼ੁਮਾਰੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜਲਵੇਹੜਾ ਲਈ ਬਾਲ ਲਿੰਗ ਅਨੁਪਾਤ 1000 ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਔਸਤ 846 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਹੈ। ਜਲਵੇਹੜਾ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੀ ਸਾਖਰਤਾ ਦਰ ਵੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਵੱਧ ਹੈ। 2011 ਦੀ ਮਰਦਮ ਸ਼ੁਮਾਰੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ, ਜਲਵੇਹੜਾ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੀ ਸਾਖਰਤਾ ਦਰ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ 75.84% ਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ 82.22% ਸੀ। ਜਲਵੇਹੜਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਰਦ ਸਾਖਰਤਾ ਦਰ 89.86% ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਖਰਤਾ ਦਰ 74.47% ਹੈ।

ਇਸਦਾ ਖੇਤਰਫਲ 1.35 ਵਰਗ ਕਿਲੋਮੀਟਰ ਹੈ। ਆਲੇ-ਦੁਆਲੇ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਹਨ: ਪਾਂਸ਼ਟਾ , ਨਰੂੜ, ਨਸੀਰਾਬਾਦ (ਸ਼ੇਖੁਪਰ), ਟੋਡਰਪੁਰ, ਨੰਗਲਾਂ, ਠਿੰਡਲਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਚੈੜਾਂ। ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਨਜ਼ਦੀਕੀ ਸੜਕ ਪਾਂਸ਼ਟਾ ਫਗਵਾੜਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਤਕਰੀਬਨ 2 ਕਿਲੋਮੀਟਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੈ।

ਨਜ਼ਦੀਕੀ ਰੇਲਵੇ ਸਟੇਸ਼ਨ ਫਗਵਾੜਾ 23 ਕਿਲੋਮੀਟਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੈ। ਜਲਵੇੜਾ ਦਾ ਡਾਕਖਾਨਾ ਟੋਡਰਪੁਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ। ਜਲਵੇਹੜਾ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ 1800 ਦੀ ਮਰਦਮਸ਼ੁਮਾਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ।

ਪਿੰਡ ਜਲਵੇਹੜਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾਤਰ ਆਬਾਦੀ ਡੋਡ ਕਬੀਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਹੈ।

ਡੋਡ ਕਬੀਲੇ ਦਾ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ

ਗੜਸ਼ੰਕਰ ਕਸਬੇ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਡੋਡ ਰਾਜਾ ਸ਼ੰਕਰ ਸਹਾਏ ਨੇ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ । ਗੜ੍ਹਸ਼ੰਕਰ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ 1000 ਈਸਵੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਸ਼ੰਕਰ ਸਹਾਏ ਡੋਡ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ। ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾਤਰ ਰਾਜਪੂਤ ਇਸ ਵੇਲੇਦੇ  ਗੜ੍ਹਸ਼ੰਕਰ ਦੇ ਬਲਾਕ ਨੰਬਰ 22 ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ

ਡੋਡ ਕਬੀਲੇ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਸਾਜ਼ਿਸ਼ (1775)

ਘੋੜੇਵਾਹਾ ਕਬੀਲੇ ਨੇ ਡੋਡਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਇੱਕ ਘਾਤਕ ਸਾਜ਼ਿਸ਼ ਰਚੀ। ਉਹ ਡੋਡ ਕਬੀਲੇ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਪੁਜਾਰੀ ਭਾਰਦਵਾਜ ਨੂੰ ਖਰੀਦਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਸੋਚੀ ਸਮਝੀ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਡੋਡਾਂ ਦਾ ਕਤਲੇਆਮ ਕੀਤਾ।

ਜਦੋਂ ਡੋਡ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੁੱਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ, ਘੋੜੇਵਾਹ ਕਬੀਲੇ ਦੇ ਹਥਿਆਰਬੰਦ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਮੰਦਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾਖਲ ਹੋਏ, ਇੱਕ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਡੋਡ ਕਬੀਲੇ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ 'ਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ । ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਹ ਖਾਲੀ ਹੱਥ ਸਨ। ਖਾਲੀ ਹੱਥ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ  ਡੋਡ ਕਬੀਲੇ ਦੇ ਪਰੋਹਤ ਨੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸੀ ।

ਘੋੜੇਵਾਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਨੇ ਡੋਡਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਰਹਿਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਟੈਂਕ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਾਸ਼ਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ, ਘੋੜੇਵਾਹ  ਅੰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੜ੍ਹਸ਼ੰਕਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਗਏ। ਇਹ ਘਟਨਾ 1775 ਦੇ ਆਸ-ਪਾਸ ਵਾਪਰੀ ਸੀ।

ਉਸ ਕਤਲੇਆਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋਏ ਡੋਡ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਇਲਾਕਿਆਂ (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਪਿੰਡ ਡਾਂਡੀਆਂ, ਮਾਨਸੋਵਾਲ ਆਦਿ) ਵੱਲ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ। ਮਾਨਸੋਵਾਲ ਵੱਲ ਪਰਵਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਡੋਡਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਨਵੀਆਂ ਬਸਤੀਆਂ ਮੁੜ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ।

ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਰਣਜੀਤ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਦੌਰਾਨ। ਸਿੰਘ, ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਕੰਢੀ ਦੇ ਨੀਮ ਪਹਾੜੀ ਖੇਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ,ਮਾਨਸੋਵਾਲ ਦੇ ਡੋਡਾਂ ਨੇ ਘੋੜੇਵਾਹਿਆਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਕਤਲੇਆਮ ਦਾ ਬਦਲਾ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਰਣਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਲਈ ਪੰਦਰਾਂ ਘੋੜ ਸਵਾਰ ਭੇਜੇ। ਬਦਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ

ਮਹਾਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਡੋਡਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਨਸੋਵਾਲ ਦੀਆਂ ਜ਼ਮੀਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਇਦਾਦ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ।

ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ ਸਾਮਰਾਜ ਨੇ ਮਾਨਸੋਵਾਲ ਦੇ ਡੋਡਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਠ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਇਦਾਦ ਵੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਜੇਏਐਲ ਮੋਂਟਗੋਮਰੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਕਲਕੱਤਾ ਸੈਂਟਰਲ ਪ੍ਰੈਸ ਕੰਪਨੀ, ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਿਤ 1885 ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸੰਸ਼ੋਧਿਤ ਬੰਦੋਬਸਤ, ਹੁਸ਼ਿਆਰਪੁਰ ਡਿਸਟ੍ਰਿਕਟ, 1877-1884 ਦੀ ਅੰਤਿਮ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਨਾ 67 'ਤੇ ਦਰਜ ਹੈ।

ਗੜ੍ਹਸ਼ੰਕਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਡੋਡਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਤਲੇਆਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਆਖਰੀ ਡੋਡ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਪੰਜ ਪੋਤੇ ਬਚ ਗਏ ਸਨ। ਆਖ਼ਰੀ ਡੋਡ ਰਾਜੇ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਛੋਟਾ ਪੋਤਾ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਘੋੜੇਵਾਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਸੀ, ਦਾ ਵਿਆਹ ਅਜਨੋਹਾ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਲੜਕੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਗੜ੍ਹਸ਼ੰਕਰ ਦੁਖਾਂਤ ਦੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ, ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਛੋਟੇ ਰਾਜਕੁਮਾਰ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਅਜਨੋਹਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਪਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਸੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਬੱਚੇ ਦੀ ਉਮੀਦ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ।

ਉਸਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹੀਂ ਦਿਨੀਂ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਧੀ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਲਈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਰਾਜਕੁਮਾਰ 1800 ਵਿਚ ਬਾਲਗ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਅਜਨੋਹਾ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਘਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ।

ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਬੀਤਣ ਨਾਲ, ਉਸਦੇ ਚਚੇਰੇ ਭਰਾ, ਉਸਦੇ ਦੋ ਚਾਚਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਉਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਬੇਘਰ ਸਨ, ਅੰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਆ ਗਏ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੇ ਸਥਾਨ ਦੁਵਾਲੇ ਨੀਵੀਂ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ  ਸੀ। ਬਰਸਾਤ ਦੇ ਮੌਸਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿੰਡ ਕਈ-ਕਈ ਦਿਨ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ।

ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਨੂੰ " ਜਲਵੇਹੜਾ " ਭਾਵ " ਪਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਵਿਹੜਾ " ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਣ ਲੱਗ

ਉਸ ਦੇ ਤੀਜੇ ਚਾਚੇ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਘਮੰਡੀ ਸੀ, ਵੀ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਆ ਗਿਆ। ਘਮੰਡੀ ਦਾ ਭਰਾ, ਜਿਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜੱਟੂ ਸੀ, ਠੱਕਰਵਾਲ (ਪੁਰਾਣਾ) ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ।

ਜਦੋਂ ਕਪੂਰਥਲਾ ਦੇ ਮਹਾਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਠਕਰਵਾਲ (ਪੁਰਾਣਾ) ਵਿਖੇ ਰਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਡੋਡ ਪਰੀਵਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਦੀ ਪੇਸ਼ਕਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਤਾਂ ਜੱਟੂ ਦੇ ਉੱਤਰਾਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਨਵੇਂ ਠਕਰਵਾਲ (ਰਣਧੀਰਗੜ੍ਹ) ਚਲੇ ਗਏ। ਇਸ ਪਿੰਡ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਰਿਕਾਰਡ ਰਣਧੀਰਗੜ੍ਹ ਹੈ ।

ਪਰ ਠਕਰਵਾਲ (ਪੁਰਾਣੇ) ਤੋਂ ਪਰਵਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਡੋਡ ਪਰੀਵਾਰ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਠੱਕਰਵਾਲ (ਨਵਾਂ) ਹੀ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ।

ਕੁਝ ਸਮੇਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਜਲਵੇੜਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਰਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਡੋਡ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਕੁਝ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਲਵੇੜਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੀ ਪੇਸ਼ਕਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ,  ਕੁਝ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਠੱਕਰਵਾਲ (ਨਵਾਂ) ਤੋਂ ਜਲਵੇਹੜਾ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ। ਜੋ ਲੋਕ ਜਲਵੇੜਾ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਜ ਵੀ "ਪੱਤੀ ਠੱਕਰਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਦੇ" ਵਜੋਂ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
